15. The Curtain Falls




Today 28 June , 2012, the former President of India, His Excellency Dr.A.P.J. Abdul   Kalam, inaugurated the Valedictory Function of the Centenary Celebrations.





Dr. Kalam also interacted with students and teachers from local schools and colleges . 


 
In one of the most  inspiring speeches, Dr. Kalam exhorted the teachers to live up to the ideal of a great teacher:...One who encourages students to ask  questions to make them enlightened citizens...One who treats all  students equally... One who provides quality education to students.... 

For this, teachers should first and foremost love teaching... and strive to lift the average students to excellence... he/she should provide affection like a mother, a sister, a brother... a father...".
  
Dr.Kalam presented a gold medal  to Mrs. Sheeja T.C.  for securing  the first rank in the  MEd degree examination of the University of Kerala.
  
Ms. Ragi N.P  received a gold medal for securing the first rank in the BEd degree examination of the University of Kerala.

Dr. Kalam also unveiled the  foundation stone of the Centenary block and the Centenary plaque. 


During the function, the Worshipful Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Adv. K. Chandrika released the Centenary Souvenir.
                                                                                                           
The Principal of the college, Mrs. Mary Xavier welcomed the invited guests.  Dr.G.R.Santhosh Kumar  presented a  report of the  Centenary Celebrations and Dr.R.  Binoy proposed the vote of thanks.

14. Valedictory Function




In  the last few meetings,  the Swagath Sangam proposed to  conclude the Centenary Celebrations  in a befitting manner. 

It was decided to invite  His Excellency the  former President of India  Dr.A.P.J. Abdul  Kalam,  to inaugurate the  function.



 The Valedictory function is  scheduled for 28th  June 2012.

12.Seminars and other activities






 
  
Several  seminars were organized in the college for the benefit of the trainees of the college during the Centenary Celebrations. 




Efficient Resource Persons engaged sessions during the Seminars on Pre-marital Counselling and Guidance; Right to Education; Teacher Effectiveness;  Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety. 




 Onam, Christmas and Id celebrations, Personality development courses, Film Festival,  the exhibitions  organized   by various teaching departments of the college and various club activities ensured  an enriching learning experience for the  students who were fortunate enough to be  on the rolls of  the college during the Centenary Celebrations.

11.Community Educational Survey



The BEd. trainees of the college (2011-12) batch conducted an educational survey of Thycaud Ward on 13th and 14th August 2011. Trainees  assisted by  the Ward Councillor, Sri Madhava Das and members of eleven residents associations,  visited houses  and collected house-wise details. Based on an analysis of the Survey, a need identification was made for future community-based activities to be undertaken by the college.

10. Inter-training College Athletic Meet 2011





Above two hundred athletes from  seventeen  colleges participated in the Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet for Colleges of Teacher Education held at the University Stadium on  25th  August 2011.  The team from the Kerala University College  of Teacher Education, Kumarapuram was the winner and the Govt. College of Teacher Education, Thiruvanathapuram, the Runners-Up.

9. National Workshop on Research Methodology in Education



Over  hundred  participants from Kerala and neighbouring states attended the five-day Workshop organized at Press Club, Thiruvananthapuram from 10th to 14th February 2011. 



 Eminent researcher and educationist     Dr. D.Sansanwal was the main Resource Person.

8. Rangotsav 2011




A cultural competition involving the B.Ed training colleges affiliated to  the University of Kerala was conducted by the college from 25th to 27th  May 2011. Twenty-seven teacher training college competed for fifty-seven stage and off stage items. 



The Government College of Teacher Education emerged the overall champions.

7.Exhibition





An exhibition was conducted  in the college campus  on 4th & 5th March 2011, as part of the Centenary Celebrations. Providing an opportunity for students from different institutions to share their knowledge, display creative abilities, creating a platform for discussing the possibilities of knowledge application and highlighting the possibilities of applying technological innovations in education were some of the objectives of the exhibition. Several stalls were put up  by trainees of  local institutions,  the trainees of the college and  the students of  Govt. Model High School, Thiruvananthapuram.

6. Guru Vandanam






Guru Vandanam marked the  Centenary Year Celebration of Teachers’ Day .“When a teacher is honoured, a civilization is honoured”. It was in this spirit that  5th September 2010  was chosen as a day to honour former teachers of the college.



 The Chief Guest of the programme was HH  Sree Padmanabhadasa  Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the Head of the Travancore Royal family. Several former teachers of the college were felicitated on that day.
